WHAT IS AN INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY?

  • A person with mental limitations.
  • They learn slower than a typical person.
  • Troubles with:
  • Taking care of themselves.
  • Communticating/social skills.

HOW COMMON ARE INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES?

  • Most common disability
  • About 6.5m adults and children have it alone
  • 1 in 10 kids in special ed. have the disability
  • Very common

HOW ARE INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES DIAGNOSED?

  • From a doctor or educator
  • Look at their abilities
  • Look at their functions

WHAT ARE SOME COMMON SIGNS OF AN INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY?

  • Behaivor problems such as explosive tantrums.
  • Trouble taking/ communicating with others.
  • Difficulty remembering things.
  • Medical problems such as seizures.
  • They also have vison and hearing problems.

WHAT ARE FOUR MAIN CAUSES OF AN INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY?

  • Genetic Conditions.
  • Problems during pregnancy.
  • Problems at birth.
  • Health problems.
