Socratic Method of Teaching

  • Primary goal is to have students think critically about difficult issues
  • Teachers create open ended questions that lead to a discussion, not a debate.
  • Students learn by talking with others, and examining what they believe compared to others.
  • Broad topics and universal ideas are discussed to come to 1 final consensus.

Project Based Learning

  • Students gain knowledge and skills by working extensively to investigate and respond to a complex problem.
  • Must be personally meaningful to students and fulfill an educational purpose

  • ENGAGEMENT-activate students' prior knowledge
  • Provide an EXPLANATION of new concept/theme

Inquiry Learning, con't

  • ELABORATION-students take ownership of their learning and develop solutions to a given problem
  • EVALUATION and self reflection are important components
