SOCIAL CLASSES
Wealthy elite were at the top 5% of the population
and contrilled 30- 40% of wealth.
Middle class were lawyers, doctors, business managers, engineers, accountants.
Lower middle class, small shop keepers, traders, and prosperous peasants.
Lower middle class helped the classes above them.

WORKING CLASS
Working classes made up 80% of the population
Pesants, farm laborers, and share cropers.

Included artisans and semi skilled laborers
Experience improvement after 1870's
More money for clothes and leisure activities.
At the bottom was unskilled laborers.

19th century people thought women should just stay home
Later in 19th century, birth rate decreased
Middle class women had to start to earn money
High demand for low paid workers led to women being hired
