INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

Beginning

  • The Industrial Revolution began in England.
  • It began in the late 18th century.
  • It began because inventors had created stem powered machines.
  • The steam powered machines had led to the mass production of goods.

Revolution in the U.S

  • It began in the U.S because of the British blockade.
  • The blockade prevented the U.S from trading with other countries.
  • The U.S was then forced to create its own raw materials.
  • The U.S also used the Revolution to pay off large debt.

THE NORTH

  • The North was the side that benefitted the most during the Revolution.
  • The North had such success because of its largely populated cities.
  • People from around the U.S moved to the North for the new opportunities
  • The North also began to depend on slave labor in the factories.
  • The North became the industrial center of United States

The South

  • At the beginning the Revolution had very little impact on the South
  • Later on the Industrial Revolution weakened the Southern economy.
  • The new transportation made it easier for the South to sell goods.
  • The Revolution also took away slave labor from the Southern farms.
  • The South supplied the North with materials in exchange for raw materials

  • Eli Whitney- Inventor of the cotton gin.
  • Samuel Crompton- Inventor of the Mule
  • James Watt- Inventor of the first reliable steam engine
  • Elias Howe- Inventor of the sewing machine
  • Samuel F. B. Morse- Inventor of the Telegraph

IMPORTANT INVENTIONS

  • Spinning Jenny- Machine used to weave cloth and make clothing
  • Steam Engine- Engine powered by boiling water to move boats and trains
  • The Thresher- separated grains from stalk
  • Cotton Gin- separated seeds from cotton
  • Telegraph- a machine that sends messages using Morse code
