2.
my independent study
My independent study topic is the nervous system.
I wanted to learn the many facts and injuries about the nervous system.
I want to be a doctor when I grow up so this really helps me.
3.
My progess
I started with neurons and nerve cells and their functions, diseases etc.
I went a little deep into neurons and I decided to do an overview.
I started a little slow then I started to catch up.
In the future I'd like to study the brain and it's functions, diseases etc
4.
Parts of a neuron
A typical neuron possesses a cell body (often called the soma).
It also has dendrites and axons.
The generic term for dendrite or axon is neurite.

5.
More details
An axon is a special cellular extension that arises from the cell body.
The cell body of a neuron frequently gives rise to multiple dendrites.
The axon may branch hundreds of times before it terminates
6.
Neuron's functions
The neurons transmit information from the brain to the body.
They are responsible for telling the body what to do.
Without the speed of neurons, are reactions or actions will be much slower.
7.
How neurons are the same as other cells
Neurons are surrounded by a cell membrane.
Neurons have a nucleus that contains genes.
Neurons contain cytoplasm, mitochondria and other organelles.
8.
How many of these cells are in everything's body
The number of neurons in the brain varies from species .
For humans, most estimates have ranged between 86 - 100 billion.
9.
The Brain
The brain is an organ located inside your head.
The brain and the spinal cord form the central nervous system.
This complex system controls everything we do.
Each part of the brain has a different job.
There are 3 parts of the brain: cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem

10.
Cerebrum
The cerebrum uses information from our 5 senses .
It also controls our emotions, and our ability to talk, think, read.
Then it tells us how to respond.
11.
Cerebellum
The cerebellum is located under the cerebrum at the back of the brain.
The cerebellum is located under the cerebrum at the back of the brain.
12.
Brainstem
The brain stem connects the brain and the spinal cord.
The brainstem controls functions such as breathing, blood pressure, etc.
13.
How the spinal cord helps the brain
The spinal cord is the pathway that connects the brain to the nerves.
This is important because the brain could use the spinal cord to send info
