  • Top: Emperor
  • Middle: Nobles
  • Bottom: Commoners

EMPEROR

  • Called sapa inca
  • Believed to be descended from the sun god inti
  • THe emperor believed he got his authority from the sun god.

NOBLES

  • There were 3 types of nobles
  • Made up of leaders who helped rule the vast empire
  • Capac Incas, who were considered relatives of the emperor; Hahua Incas, who did not share the royal blood; and curacas, who were leaders of people conquered by the Incas.
  • Capac incas controlled the empire’s land as well as its valuable resources, such as gold.

COMMONERS

  • Farmers and herders
  • Men did jobs like building roads, while women might weave cloth.

WHAT WERE THE LIVES OF THE EMPERORS LIKE?

  • The Sapa Inca could have many wives and hundreds of children.
  • He lived in great splendor
  • Servants carried the emperor everywhere

  • They received gifts of land, servants, llamas, and fine clothing
  • Had the right to marry more then one wife

WHAT WERE THE COMMONERS LIVES LIKE?

  • The commoners were required to support the government
  • With products of their labor
  • And by working on government sponsored projects
