She was amazed at how they used sticks and leaves and long grass as tools in hunting and building.
She learned the diet of meats, vegetables, insects and of course bananas.
In her time with these chips, she was able to comprehend and understand them. She learned how they lived and survived through facial expressions and body language.
The most interesting part was the connection of chimp behavior to that of human behavior. How every stage in life, has similarities. Going from infantry to adolescence to elderly, the experiences are very similar.
"For over half a year I have been trying to overcome the chimpanzees' inherent fear of me. And two males were sitting so close I could hear them breath. Without any doubt whatsoever, this was the proudest moment I had ever known". This is an important moment for Jane in the book because all of her work is starting to pay off. It was he first big moment in everything she has been working for. I think it's really cool that she could get so close to these wild animals without them caring.
"A sense of calm came over me. More and more often I found myself thinking, this is where I belong. This is what I came into this world to do". This is a huge leap in Jane's life. She believes that her work was the reason she was born and this is much a great feeling. To know that your not here just because. That there was a reason for us being here and this is it. This was a very inspirational quote that was touching and made me hope that one day I can find a purpose in my life like Jane did.
"In what terms should we think of these beings, nonhuman yet possessing so very many human-like characteristics? How should we treat them? Surely we should treat them with the same consideration and kindness as we show to other humans; and as we recognize human rights, so too should we recognize the rights of the great apes? Yes."
This quote shows that Jane has made great progress in her research and also shows the connection between man and chimp to be equal.
This is important to me because because through everything that is going on with equal rights right know, Jane can prove that the chimps are just as equal as we are, just less developed.
I chose this book because I've heard so much about Jane and her research in school but never got to look any deeper into it. I've heard it was really cool and interesting so I decided to give it a shot.
Yes I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about these animals. I wouldn't say it was a great book, more like a documentary. If your into that then it's a 10/10 and very interesting.
