DIMENSIONS OF TEMPLE

  • The smallest stones used were 2 to 5 tons
  • 30 meters tall walls
  • Foundation 20 meters deep

RELIGIONS AFFECTED

  • Jews: Holiest palace.
  • Muslims: site of the prophet Muhammad's journey to heaven.
  • Christians: frequently visited by Jesus.

WHO BULIT IT

  • King Solomon built the first temple.
  • In 538 Persian king Cyprus II allowed the Jews to return to jeruselum to rebuild the temple.

DIFFERENT STRUCTURES

  • First structure was distroyed by the Babylonians in 586BCE.
  • Was rebuilt in 516BCE.

TEMPLE PRESENCE

  • The temple became so identified with God's presence that some people felt it could not be destroyed.

  • Jesus' discussion with the officials leaves those who listen amazed at his understanding and his answers.
