BERLIN COFERENCE
- It happened in between 1884 and 1885.
- It was also called the Congo conference.
- In this conference they decided how to divide up Africa.
- They did it this way to avoid warring in the European countries.

EUROPEAN IMPERIALISM
- It was the conquering, occupation, and annexation of Africa.
- The Portuguese were the first to occupy this area.
- It began at the end of the 18th century.
- Only 10% of Africa was controlled in the 1870s.

IMPERIALISTIC METHODS
- They influenced the governments in their favor.
- Things like spheres of influence are used for control
- They replaced leaders with leaders that would listen to them.
- Lots of times they used indirect control.

END OF COLINESLISM
- It ended after World War 2.
- They couldn't control them
- They got diseases and died from them.
- They didn't want to fight a big war over it.

LASTING EFFECTS
- Many borders of countries still exist today from colonization.
- African culture was changed by them.
- Lots of racial oppression exists because of them.
- Widespread poverty and poor cities and countries.
