What is imperialism?
a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force.

European nations ruled smaller countries, called colonies, and competed with each other to get more colonies. Gathering colonies became known as Imperialism. They were jealous of the countries that had other places where they could gather raw materials and cheap labor.

-European countries had been expanding overseas and establishing colonies to supply them with raw materials

Many countries were competing with each other for these valuable colonies

Imperialism caused tension with all the arguing over colonies and land so it became one of the causes of WW1
