Immigration
Until the 19th century, Ireland was known as a country of emigrants. At about 1995 to 2006,
a period called “Celtic Tiger” took place. It stood for economic growth, a lower
unemployment rate, rising numbers of immigration and a better living in the Republic of
Ireland. According to the numbers of a research in 2006, there were about 420,000 non-Irish
people living in the Republic of Ireland, what was 10% of the entire population at that time.
Most of them were from the United Kingdom, Poland and Lithuania. It also says that the US,
Germany and the UK had the highest percentage of managers, China the most students,
Lithuanian, Latvian and Poland the most constructors.
Unfortunately, due to the economic crisis, Irelands economies stoped performing that well so a lot of people lost their jobs.
