The original idli
Possibly an old version of the idli was made like this:Soak lentil into a buttermilk and then grind it into a fine paste.Then add other things such as spice.
The purpose in society is for many people breakfast.Lunch and dinner also have idli.It is a main dish.
Idli originated in South India.Specifically a state called Tamil Nadu.It was originally a black lentil dish.Some people say that modern day idli may have been originated in Indonesia,where fermented dishes are in abundance.Since then idli has evolved in to something different.
What is idli?
Idli is a popular cake that is made from rice and black lentils.Although it may be very plain by itself it is delicious with dippings such as sambar and chutney.
Idli Variety
Many people use different things instead of rice.The original idli itself is not made from rice.Many people use wheat instead of rice and make rava idli.In culture in the world has spread,there are many variations of this dish in other countries.

How to make Idli (Ingredients)
- Boiled Rice (2 cups)
- Lentil(urad dal)(1/2 cup)
- Salt as needed
- This recipe will make 25 idlis
How to make Idli(steps)
- Soak all of the boiled rice in water
- soak all of the lentil(urad dal) in water
- Soak for 4-6 hours
- Grind the urad dal for 45 min. to 1hr.
- Grind the Boiled rice for same amount of time
how to make Idli
- Mix both of them with salt (preferably by hand)
- Leave it outside for 8-10 hours
- Put it into special idli steamer and cook
- Scrape the idli when fluffy and soft out of the idli steamer
