I. IDEAS OF THE RENAISSANCE

• The name of leader of secular humanism is Petrarch
• Humanists believed that through their studies and knowledge that they were able to become virtuous
• Secular humanism still exists today, with the beliefe that all things are explainable through science
• Humanists studied grammar, philosophy, history and poetry

II. ITALIAN RENASSANCE ART

• They made paintings that gave off the illusion that it had three dimensions
• Architecture was inspired by the buildings in ancient Rome
• Leonardo Da Vinci was a painter, sculptor, inventor, and scientist
• Leonardo Da Vinci was know as the Renaissance Man

III. THE NOTHERN RENAISSANCE

• Influenced by 'Christian Humanism'
• This emphisized the value of humanity without a seperation from god
• Renaissance artists perfected painting illustrations for books and alter pieces
• Jan Van Eyck perfected the technique of oil painting
