PRESENTATION OUTLINE
HOW DOES DANCE APPLY TO NEWTONS FIRST LAW OF MOTION?
An object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
Net force is the overall force acting in an object. Natural motion happens on its own like gravity. Unnatural motion is when something is forced to do something. Speed is distance over time. Velocity is the speed of something in a given direction. Inertia is the tendency to remain unchanged. Equilibrium is the state in which opposing forces are balanced.
In dance if you are posing you will not move until you force yourself to do so.
If you are in a leap you will stay in the air for only a short amount of time because air resistance and gravity are working against you.
If you are in a turn, you need to have equilibrium to make sure you can maintain balance.
If you do a needle you need to have inertia to remain steady and make sure your body is unchanging.
If you have a certain speed and velocity when doing a turn, you will turn more and have better form when you turn.
If you do a lift in dance, the net force of an object is the person lifting you into the air.
Natural motion is when you come back down to the ground after doing a leap because gravity is pulling you down. Unnatural motion is when you lift someone into the air.
Galileo experimented and was put in jail because he went against everybody else's ideas. Aristotle used logic and reasoning.
