HOW IT HAS GROWN:

  • It allows media to now be interactive
  • The reader becomes more than just an audience
  • There can be more than one author of the text
  • There is no longer one ending and one beginning
  • The text is not simply linear anymore

There are many reasons as to why Landow sees that Hypertext is a transformation for the future of literacy. He compares it to the Gutenberg Printing Press. He believes that it is going to change the way that people read and write.

He sees Hypertext as a way of mass collaboration.

In this type of collaboration the reader can now become more than just a witness. The reader can add hypertext and/or hypermedia to the original text. They become the author as well. Now an online text can have multiple authors.

SOME OTHER EXAMPLES INCLUDE:

TWITTER, FACEBOOK, BLOGS, ETC.

It changes not only the author but the shape of the text. It is multilinear with the different options that the reader gets to choose from by simply clicking on a hyperlink.

It allows for readers to make more decisions while they are reading a page with hypertext. They can choose where they want to go. It gives them the opportunity to learn more if they so desire.
