PRESENTATION OUTLINE

HYDROELECTRICITY

WATER MADE INTO ENERGY

HOW IT WORKS

  • A turbine turns a metal shaft in an electric generator
  • Turning the turbine produces energy
  • The turbine uses falling water to power the generator
  • A large dam with a high elevation and near the bottom is an intake
  • The dam stores water which is let in through the intake for the generator

WHERE IS IT ACCEPTABLE?

  • About 20% of the world's electricity is from water
  • America is the leading user of hydroelectricity
  • Canada, Brazil, and China use lots of hydroelectricity
  • Africa uses the least hydroelectricity of all of the contients
  • This is mainly because of money issuses

ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY? PRO/CON

  • Hydroelectricity is green and renewable
  • It can cause damage to water and natural water flow or droughts
  • It is safer to use, instead of harmful fums
  • It is more expensive than other types of energy
  • It is easier to use and generator than some other types
