HOW IS IT FORMED?

  • Warm, moist air rises and leaves behind a low pressure area below
  • The low pressure area then is filled with air that has higher pressure
  • Air becomes wet, and warm also so it rises as well
  • Creates circular motion, pulls in moisture from the ocean and higher winds

WAYS TO PROTECT YOURSELF

  • Evacuate from mobile home, trailer, home by the coast or elevated home
  • Rid of any loose/weak branches or dead trees near your home
  • Board up or tape windows to avoid flying shattered glass from entering your home
  • Always have an evacuation plan in place
  • Never drive into or through water that could be covering an escape route
