HUNTINGTON'S DISEASE

WHAT IS IT?

  • Huntington's Disease is when the nerve cells waste away
  • It happens in the brain
  • It is an inherited disease, passed from one generation to the next
  • Causes difficulty performing even simple bodily functions
  • Defect in chromosome 4, causing it to repeat more than usual

SYMPTOMS

  • Hard to swallow and speak
  • Rigid muscles
  • Uncoordinated muscles
  • Abnormal eye movements
  • Bad balance

TREATMENT

  • There is no real treatment for HD
  • Exercise and a healthy diet help
  • Although, these will only slow down HD, not stop it
  • Community Support is emotional help
  • Dopamine can be used to control abnormal tremors
