Trafficking in persons" shall mean the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs. Sexual Abuse:
Forcing of unwanted sexual activity by one person on another, as by the use of threats or coercion.

Sexual Abuse definitely plays a major role in the contribution to Human Trafficking. However, it's important to note the difference between abuse and trafficking.

Scam: A scheme for making money by dishonest means, or tricking somebody to obtain money or other goods from someone through dishonest means.

While Traffickers certainly use the same techniques as "scam artists", using deceit and fraud, especially in playing on the naivety of customers when it comes to age and willingness of the victim, again it's important to distinguish the differences as well as the similarities. Many people ask the question, "How can this happen?"

Human Trafficking is the Force, Fraud or Coercion of a human being for the personal profit and gain of another, with limited freedoms and little to no pay or compensation.

This is the most simple and straightforward definition.

This chart is used by law enforcement and prosecution when determining whether something fits Human Trafficking. It examines the Process - the Means and the ultimate Goal of the Trafficker.

Goals of a Trafficker

  • Money
  • Power/Control
  • Reputation
Money is definitely the driving factor, however power and reputation play key roles in the traffickers identity and purpose.

Understanding the Players

Those involved in Modern Day Slavery

Within the Industry

  • Victim
  • Trafficker
  • Customer

Victims

  • Ho's, Lot Lizard, Slut, Tricks, Ladies of the Night
  • Often don't see themselves as victims
  • Not free to leave due to Psychological bonds
  • Distrust all authority, forced to meet quotas
  • Become Survivors/Overcomer's on rescue
Most victims are conditioned into their lifestyle of bondage. Society plays into the further victimization by believing that they are they by "choice." Many people think that it's due to poor choices, and while on a certain level that may be correct, the reality is that they are manipulated and coerced, beaten and brainwashed into submission. Drugs and poverty can play a role, as well as generational or family situations beyond their control.
The attitudes towards prostitutes, or even labor trafficking victims is generally negative. In using derogatory names and feeding racial and immigration stereotypes, society places further bondages upon victims allowing traffickers to take advantage of our false perceptions.

Trafficker

  • Pimps, DJ's, Daddy, Street Producer
  • Romeo's and Gorillas, In the Game
  • Male or Female, Organized Crime, Independent
  • Students of Psychology, Promotions, Trends
  • Come from various backgrounds
Traffickers on the other hand receive modicum of celebratory status within the mainstream culture. Nice cars, clothes, jewelry and women at their side the pop culture feeds into the glorification of a "pimp lifestyle."
Not to give the Traffickers too much credit in their intelligence, the truth is that many of them are bright and intuitive in human nature and trends. Using it to their advantage.

Customers

  • Johns, Dates, All ages, mostly male.
  • Believe several lies about victims
  • Predominantly violent
  • Often repeat customers
  • Rarely viewed as criminal
  • Most of us are unwilling customers of labor trafficking.
Many people think of customers as just horny guys who are wanting sex. When talking to victims of sex trafficking, they will tell you that they can tell an experienced customer based upon how violent they are. Most customers engage in prostitution in order to live out play out their depraved fantasies that usually feed off of violent impulses. The customer views another human being as simply being a commodity they can do whatever they want with because they paid for it. The fantasy of a Pretty Woman encounter is simply another lie that further protects the sordid industry of modern slavery.

Outside the Industry

  • Non-Government Organizations
  • Law Enforcement
  • Judicial System
  • Legislators
  • Abolitionists
Many groups and individuals must come together to fight the business model of Human Trafficking. Effective Coalitions MUST rely upon cooperation between Government and Non-Government agencies. According to law-enforcement, when a community is properly educated in the workings of human trafficking, more quality tips have led to arrests and prosecutions. NGO's are vital in the assistance of rescue and restoration operations, not to mention the education and awareness that helps in preventing more victims and hopefully customers.

A Global Perspective

slavery around the world

United States oF America

A Primary Funding Nation of Global Trafficking
The United States is the #1 Funding nation of Human Trafficking.

While it may not be the number one nation of verified sex trafficking cases, between the alarming growth of Domestic Sex Trafficking, the massive sex tourism that comes from the U.S. coupled with the mass consumerism of products and pornography produced by slave labor in other nations, it's clear that the fight against Modern Slavery must begin right here.

Brainwashing and manipulation that creates and emotional bond of victims to their captors

Wrap me up so i can't break free, don't let go, capture me, hold me down- so it's hard to breath, lose control, keep your eyes on me,
tie me down,
got me alone, on the Stockholm syndrome,
Wrap me up so i can't break free, don't let go, capture me, hold me down- so it's hard to breath, lose control, keep your eyes on me,
