PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Human body system

Focus's on the Digestive and Endocrine System

Endocrine

Hypothalamus, pituitary, endocrine glands

Endocrine system

  • Made of eight major glands
  • They signal each other in sequence
  • The endocrine system sends signals throughout the body, much like the nervous system
  • Endocrine glands are vascular and generally do not have ducts, using intracellular vacuoles, or granules, to store hormones
  • The endocrine system gets some help from organs such as the kidney, liver, heart and gonads, which have secondary endocrine functions.

Responsible for hormone production

Pituitary

The pituitary is an endocrine (hormone-producing) gland that sits just beneath the base of the brain, behind the bridge of the nose

endocrine glands

when too many hormones are secreted from a gland

DIGESTIVE

MOUTH, ESOPHAGUS, STOMACH,LIVER, PANCREAS,SMALL/LARGE INTESTINE

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

  • Extracts and absorbs nutrients from food.
  • Removes waste.
  • Maintains water balances.
  • Maintains chemical balances.

MOUTH AND ESOPHAGUS

MOUTH BREAKS DOWN FOOD TO HELP DIGEST, ESOPHAGUS DELIVERS FOOD

STOMACH

STRONG ACIDS BREAKDOWN FOOD AND RELEASE INTO SMALL INTESTINE

SMALL INTESTINE

BREAKS DOWN FOOD USING ENZYMES RELEASED BY PANCREAS AND LIVER

LIVER AND PANCREAS

LIVER PROCESSES NUTRIENTS, PANCREAS PRODUCES INSULIN

Digestive system provides the energy that the endocrine system uses, the endocrine system regulates the digestive system producing hormones like insulin to help metabolize foods and nutrients.
