How To Write A Theatre Review

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Step 1
Begin with a hook (catchy statement) to pull your reader in. A quote, or example from the play.

A brief summary of the plot and some history about the play, and the period in which it was written.

Step 3

  • Discuss performance's direction
  • Give director's name and approach
  • Did they try a new approach?
  • Was the staging traditional?

STEP 4

  • Review the performances
  • How did the actors approach their roles?
  • Were they believable?
  • Be sure to provide the actor's names being discussed

Step 5
Comment on the lighting, set, costumes, and music. Discuss the importance of these items to the performance.

Step 6
Would you recommend the play? Give reasons why or why not. Suggest ways the performance could have been better, and if you loved it say why.

Step 7
Include the times of the performance, where, and for how long. Also include logistical information like where to get tickets, etc...
