I was having difficulty trying to decide how to present this topic without using my Ipad to do live demonstrations. I have obviously been watching too much celebrity masterchef and great british bakeoff as I had a dream about presenting this as a recipe - a simple, practical, how to guide to creating your own augmented content.

You will need to create an Aurasma Studio Account - if you want to share content across multiple devices this is the easiest way to do it. You will need an image - this becomes the trigger for the augmented contented. You will need a video file - known as the overlay, this opens when you scan the trigger image and lastly you need a device on which you can use the Aurasma App. Currently this is available for ios devices and google devices running android 4.
Set up your account, go to www.aurasma.com, click on the link for partners and then apply now. Fill in the simple for and they will email you with your account details.
Step 2 decide what it is you want to augment - the next few slides will show you some of the things we have been doing. We started off by using augmented reality to showcase some aspects of college life which are difficult to show in an open evening - galleries of student work, videos of visits and trips, examples of teaching to name a few.
Video demonstrations was something we were very keen to augment - we now have video demos in catering on posters and handouts, this is an area where there is limited access to computers so allowing learners to use their own devices to get a refresher on a technique has proved very popular. Possibly an augmented cook book on the cards.
This is an assessment worksheet where the word cloud serves two purposes - one it is there as a pointer to potential answers in the questions and secondly when you scan it it will show you an animated presentation.
One of the hardest things with augmented reality is creating the video content - you can just use standard video as in the catering example but we really wanted to experiment with other ways of presenting content - the next few slides show just some of the ways we have done this.
Videoscribe - available as an app ios and android (price varies but not very expensive). Creates brilliant hand drawn animations without the need to draw yourself.
We are getting very good feedback on this as a way to do presentations.
tellagami - ios only at the minute but they are working on an android version.
If you do not have an avatar I would really recommend you get one - you can be skinner, younger and have better hair. This is a really great way of engaging with your students. You could put an image of your avatar on a piece of work and tell your learners what you want them to do. We are looking to use these to create posters about various services in the college. Really good as you can insert your own background.
Sock puppets is just really silly and fun - if you buy an all access pass you can upload your own backgrounds, and with this one you can have more than one character and more than one scene.
30 Hands is a simple ios app for creating narrated slideshows (digital stories), simply upload your images and add audio for each one then putput to,the camera roll.
There are other apps which we use details are on your handout.
Choose the image you would like as a trigger. Upload this to the trigger icon filling in all the fields. There is lots of information to help you with doing this.
Then you need to upload your video file to the overlay section - its preferable that your video is under a 100 mb as it loads easier. Next click on the aura tab and add the aura - basically linking up your trigger image to the video.
Next put your image on a poster, handout or wherever you want it and scan it with the app (you must make sure that the app is subscribed to your channel) here is an example of the app working but please try out the posters and handouts.
