HOW TO MAKE A MUMMY

STEP ONE

  • The brain was taken out first by sticking a hook up the left nostril.
  • They stuck a hook up it to to grab the brain.
  • The brain was taken out using a tool called an embalmers knife or brain hook.

STEP TWO

  • They then took out the stomach, liver and lungs.
  • They made an incision on the left to get them out.
  • Then they put the organs in canonic jars.
  • They then stuffed the body with cotton.

STEP THREE

  • Then the body was covered with natron and put on a slanted table.
  • They put a jar near the bottom to let water dry out
  • The body was dried out for forty days.

STEP FOUR

  • After forty days, the mummy was cleaned off with oils and brushes to stop water.
  • Then the body was covered with jewelry and sacred necklaces.
  • Before the mummy was put in the sarcophagus it was wrapped with many layers of linen.
  • Small dolls that looked like the mummy, called shabtis, were put in the wrappings.
  • They were supposed to work in the fields for the mummy in the next life.

STEP FIVE

  • Finally, the mummy was put in three coffins and the sarcophagus.
  • The whole embalming process took seventy days.
