HOW THE FLUTE HAS CHANGED OVER TIME

Creation
The first flute was invented thousands of years ago,and were made out of bone.It was 13 inches long, had 5 finger holes, a v shaped mouthpiece, and had only 1 section.(Owen)People believe that early humans used them for hunting or rituals. ("History of the flute")

Growth & change
The oldest flutes were actually vertical flutes which means they were played on the top of the instrument like a clarinet or recorder; the newer (aka modern flutes) are now transverse flutes which are played in a horizontal position, on the side of the top of the instrument.(Willis) Flutes used to only have 13 or less finger holes that had tricky fingerings; but,

since the Sixteenth century flutes have had around 20. ("History of flute") The older flutes were also made from wood , but since they didn't last long, Theobald Boehm invented the metal flute.

Impact
Scientists have found that music stimulates more parts of the brain than any other function. And music can create miracles, it can help patients regain ability to speak. You play the flute in a horizontal position , these types of flutes are called transverse flutes. You play a flute by blowing over the hole in the head joint.
