PRESENTATION OUTLINE

GHETTOS BY MADISON AND HELEN

& NYA

GHETTOS WERE FENCED IN PARTS OF CITIES where Jews were sent to live separately from the rest of society.

The ghettos were massively overpopulated, and extremely difficult to live in.

Contagious diseases spread rapidly, as did hunger and starvation.

The crowded, unsanitary spaces caused thousands of people to die in the ghettos.

Places like Warsaw and Lodz, the largest ghettos, were separated from their cities by barbed wire fences, and normal people couldn't stay inside.

"At the end of August 1939, we left from Katowice to Warsaw in our car, to be with my maternal grandfather. I saw many refugees on the road. A few days later, on Sept. 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. Katowice, my hometown, was occupied by German troops within a few hours after the invasion of Poland. This was the beginning of the Holocaust."- Ed Herman

That was a quote from a holocaust survivor who was forced into a ghetto at a very young age.
