SIMPLE SENTENCES

  • A simple sentence has one subject and one verb
  • It includes one independent clause
  • Examples would include:
  • She will walk the dog.
  • He will do his homework.

COMPLEX SENTENCES

  • They include a dependent and independent clause
  • Examples would be:
  • If you are going to the store, will you buy dog food.
  • We went to the store, then to a restroom.

COMPOUND SENTENCES

  • It includes two independent clauses
  • It has two subjects and two verbs
  • Examples include:
  • I like making origami, and I like drawing art.
  • My parents bought a sugar glider, and they will bring her home soon.

  • Includes two or more independent clauses
  • Also includes one or more dependent clauses
  • Examples include:
  • Although I like to go camping, I haven't had the time to lately,
  • and I haven't found anyone to go with.
