LIFE BEFORE THE WAR

A farming People
The Hmong lived in bamboo houses that had no running water. Their relatives usually lived close by.

Clearing land
The farmers cut down the trees then burned them to clear the land.

After the men picked the women and children pounded and weeded the rice and in the summer everything was done twice as much

Farming on a mountainside
When there want much land the farmers would plant field on the mountainsides and they wove baskets to harvest the rice.

Everyone must work
Everyone had a job to to. The work was done from sun rise to sun set.

Little time for work
Many children didn't go to school because of all the work that had to be done. When they went to school they lived their during the week.

Fruits of war
Some wanted no part of the war and fled. The war changed their lives forever.
