ADOLF HITLER

THE FUHRER

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, Easter Sunday. He was very close to his mother yet had a lot of conflict with his father.

WWI: Hitler took messages to and from the front line. The one thing he cared about was his white terrier, Foxl, and getting Iron Cross medals.

Mustard gas exploded in his hideout and he was temporarily blinded.

Hitler's Rise to Power: Hitler designed the swastika, the German Worker's Party banner.

The Munich Uprising was an important event. The Nazis thought it was the right time to gain power because there were big financial problems and hunger riots in Germany. Hitler was arrested and charged with treason. He writes Mein Kamp, My Struggle, while in jail.

Becoming the Fuhrer: Hitler became Chancellor on January 30, 1933. The Enabling Act is passed on March 23, 1933. This gave Hitler dictating powers. Hitler declares himself the Fuhrer on August 2, 1934, which means all soldiers have allegiance to Hitler personally.

Hitler's beliefs about Jews and others: Hitler had an extreme form of German Nationalism. He was anti-democratic, he hated Jews, he was an extreme homophobic, and ultra conservative about women.

"I would have killed all the Jews in the world, but I kept some to show the world why I killed them."

WWII: In 1939, Germans started invading and trying to take over many countries such as Austria, Poland, and Czechoslovakia in1939, and Denmark and Norway in 1940. They conquered countries like Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Belgium in 1940. Mussolini joins Hitler. The U.S. goes to war with Hitler in 1941.

Wannsee Conference: January 20, 1942. Wannsee Conference was one of the most famous meetings in history. Germany wanted to get rid of lall Jews. Mass murder was already taking place but they wanted support for taking killing to a new level.

Holocaust: About 6,000,000 European Jews were killed, about 1.5 million were children. First they took away the Jews' rights to work and own businesses, then they brought them to concentration camps where there were gassings and mass shootings.

There was a plot to kill Hitler because the Germans were losing the war and he would not surrender. Hitler had a nervous collapse when his order to rescue Berlin was not followed.

Hitler had his doctor test whether his dog, Blondi, would. die if he had a cyanide capsule. Blondi dies. Then Hitler commits suicide with Eva, his new wife, 36 hours after their marriage. Eva takes cyanide pills and Hitler points a gun to his head on April 30, 1945. Nazi Germany collapses and declares defeat on June 5, 1945.

Conclusion: Hitler had a huge effect on the world. He was a very fierce leader and he improved Germany's military force and economy. He was sick and twisted, but also brilliant. He used power to do evil and is responsible for the death of millions.
