PRESENTATION OUTLINE

HISTORY

  • Invented by William G. Morgan.
  • The original name was mintonette
  • William was born in Lockport, New York.
  • He studied at Springfield college mass in 1892.

FIRST GAME

  • It was played at YMCA training school,now called Springfield
  • The net was 6ft. 6in off the ground and the court was 25x50ft.
  • The first country outside the United States to adopt volleyball was Canada.
  • It was introduced as an Olympic sport in 1964 at the summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.

POSITIONS

  • Front & back center
  • Right front and back
  • Left front and back
  • The server position is right back
  • Rotation would be clockwise on a side-out

  • Rotation on a side out
  • Side out- when the ball goes out for the other team a chance to serve

RULES

  • Only 3 hits to get the ball over the net.
  • No player can hit the ball twice.
  • Two teammates that hit it at the same time either can hit it again.
  • Lines are good, if the ball hits on the line it is considered in play.
  • A player hit the ball if it is out, as long as it has not hit the ground.

TYPE OF HITS

  • Set: used for high hit balls above your shoulders and head.
  • Bump: used for balls hit to a medium level waist time.
  • Dig: used for very low hit balls near the ground.
  • Spike: hard offensive stroke usually hit with one hand by jumping up and
  • The ball is hit at the top of the net in a hard action.

STRATEGY

  • It is considered good volleyball strategy for the first player
  • Who receives the ball as it comes over the net. To set it
  • To the center forward. The center forward should then set it to the left or
  • Right forwards to hit it over the net.

COURTESIES

  • Call all faults correctly.
  • Return the ball by rolling it under the net.

  • Dead balls: any ball that temporarily out of play;side out or point
  • Match: teams play best two out of three games.
  • Defaulted games: when any team forfeits.
  • Rotation: the shifting of players; in a clockwise direction after a side out.
