THE BEGINNING

  • Overthrew the Umayyad caliphate. In 747, under the leadership of Abū Muslim, led to the defeat of Marwān II.
  • This was the beginning of their rule

  • Ruled from 750-1258
  • Was located in modern day Iran.
  • Was considered the Islamic golden age

Information

  • The Abbasid Caliphate ruled over a large empire that included the Middle East, western Asia, and northeast Africa (including Egypt). The early part of the Abbasid rule was a time of peace and prosperity.

INFORMATION

  • During the golden age, The culture flourished as Arabic art and architecture reached new heights. The first capital city of the Abbasids was Kufa. However, they founded and built the city of Baghdad as their new capital in 762 CE

  • Mongol invasion. ( Siege of Baghdad )
  • The centralized power of the caliphate declined centrifugally. By 945, the area around Iraq fell to a dynasty of Amirs;
