SOLAR SYSTEM

  • Is the sun and all of the bodies that orbit the sun.
  • Heliocentric model: earth and the other planets orbit the sun.
  • Geocentric model: which used earth as the center and are called earth-centered

ARISTOTLE

  • A Greek philosopher
  • Thought earth was the center of all things
  • He thought that if there earth went around the sun, the relative positions would change earths moves.
  • This is called parallax

ARISTARCHUS

  • Was a Greek astronomer and mathematician
  • Proposed a heliocentric model of the solar system

PTOLEMY

  • Was an astronomer, geographer, and mathematician
  • Developed a detailed geocentric model that used by astronomers for the next 14 centuries

COPERNICUS

  • Polish astronomer named Nicolaus Copernicus
  • Developed the first detailed heliocentric model of the solar system

KEPLER

  • Was a German mathematician and astronomer.
  • Kepler tried other types of paths and found that ellipses fit best.
  • Kepler formulated three principles, which today are know as kepler's laws.

  • Galileo made significant improvements to the newly invented telescope.
