WHAT HAPPENED TO HIROSHIMA

  • On August 6, 1945, the US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima that destroyed most of the city.
  • The radiation and heat killed 80,000 People

THE DOME

THE GENBAKU DOME

  • It was constructed in 1915
  • It opened as a museum in 1950.
  • Another name is the Atomic bomb dome
  • Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Exhibition Hall

THE DOME’S MATERIAL & THE ARCHITECT

  • The name of the architect was Jan Letzel
  • the outer wall made of stone and mortar. The building was three stories high and contained multiple windows, with a five-story central stair hall capped by an oval copper dome

PURPOSE FOR DOME BEFORE WAR/DURING /NOW

  • The hall served many purposes, such as a place to collect and display products from Hiroshima Prefecture and other prefectures, to carry out consultation and research regarding commerce and industry,
  • he hall’s purpose was directed away from promotional activities, and the hall came to be used as an office for public agencies and control unions such as the Interior Ministry’s Chugoku-Shikoku Public Works Office and the Hiroshima District Lumber Control Corporation.
  • Now,the dome is a remembrance for the day the bomb was dropped

  • Today, Hiroshima has recovered into a bustling manufacturing hub with a population of 1.1 million people and counting.
  • The park today is a big landmark of Japan
  • Every year they put names into the fire of the concrete Dome
