CELL MEMBRANE

BARRIER THAT SEPARATES A CELL FROM THE ENVIRONMENT
Cell membrane and a city wall are similar because a cell membrane controls what goes in and out of the cell. A city wall is similar because it controls who and what is in the city.

CYTOPLASM

THE FLUID THAT FILLS THE CELL
Cytoplasm is similar to the people of a city because both are everywhere within the cell and city.

NUCLEUS

AN ORGANELLE THAT STORES AND PROTECTS THE DNA
The nucleus is like the city hall of the cell because it stores all the DNA like the city hall stores all the city's information.

NUCLEOLUS

CARRIES MESSENGER RNA AND SOME RIBOSOMES
Nucleolus and the postal service are similar because a nucleolus carries messenger RNA and some ribosomes like the postal service carries mail and packages.

CYTOSKELETON

NETWORK OF PROTEINS THAT CHANGES TO MEET THE NEEDS OF A CELL
Cytoskeleton and the City Council are I similar because like the City Council meets the needs of the townspeople the cytoskeleton meets the needs of the cell.

SMOOTH ER

NETWORK OF THIN, FOLDED MEMBRANES WITH NO RIBOSOMES
Smooth ER is similar to a hospital because smooth ER removes toxins and metabolizes carbohydrates like at a hospital where your sickness is taken care of.

ROUGH ER

NETWORK OF THIN, FOLDED MEMBRANES COVERED IN RIBOSOMES
Rough ER is similar to a farm because a farm is where cattle and produce is grown and raised, this relates to rough ER manufactures and proteins many proteins.

RIBOSOME

TINY ORGANELLE THAT LINKS AMINO ACIDS TOGETHER TO FORM PROTEINS
Ribosomes are related to churches because churches bring many different people together and united. Ribosomes bring amino acids together to make proteins.

GOLGI APPARATUS

MEMBRANE ENCLOSED SPACES THAT PROCESS, SORT AND DELIVER PROTEINS
The Golgi apparatus is like a factory because it processes, sorts, and delivers proteins like a factory processes, sorts, and delivers it's products.

VESICLE

SAC THAT TRANSPORTS THESE MATERIALS FROM PLACE TO PLACE
The vesicle is similar to a subway because it transports materials to other places like a subway transports people around the city.

MITOCHONDRIA

SUPPLIES ENERGY TO THE CELL
The mitochondria is similar to a grocery store because mitochondria supplies the energy for the cell like a grocery store supplies energy to the people around it.

VACUOLE

FLUID-FILLED SAC USED FOR STORAGE OF MATERIALS NEED BY A CELL
The vacuole is like a bank vault because the vacuole stores valuable materials need for the cell and a bank vault stores money needed for the city.

LYSOSOME

MEMBRANE-BOUND ORGANELLE THAT CONTAINS ENZYMES
Lysosomes are similar to police officers because lysosomes "break down" parts of the cell and substances that have been brought into the cell from the outside, and police officers "break down" criminals.

CENTRIOLE

ORGANELLE MADE OF SHORT MICROTUBULES ARRANGED IN A CIRCLE
The centriole is like a highway because the centriole (highway) helps chromosomes (cars) move during cell division.

CELL WALL

STRUCTURE THAT PROVIDES RIGID SUPPORT
The cell wall is like the fire department because the cell wall provides rigid support for the cell, and the fire department does the same for a city.

CHLOROPLAST

HELPS A PLANT CONVERT SOLAR ENRGY TO CHEMICAL ENERGY
The chloroplast is like solar panels because they both convert solar energy to chemical energy.

CENTROSOME

SMALL REGION OF CYTOPLASM THAT PRODUCES MICROTUBULES
The centrosome is like a car garage because the centrosome is where centrioles are located during cell division, and a car garage stores a car.
