OWLS

OWLS ARE NOCTURNAL

DAT MEANS THEY ARE MORE ACTIVE AT NIGHT

OWLS ARE AMAZING HUNTERS

  • They have more rods in their eyes than anything
  • Their ears are just holes in their heads
  • Their legs are protected by feathers
  • They fly silently

THEIR EYES

  • Since they have more rods and less cones, their eyes cant move
  • They make up for this by rotating their heads.

OWLS EARS

  • They have holes in the side of their heads we went over this
  • One ear is lower than the other
  • They can hear their prey from underneath snow.

OWLS TALONS

  • Those are their claws (the claaaaawwww)
  • They have feathers down their legs too keep their prey from scratching at them

FOOD

  • Owls swallow their food whole
  • Because of this, they hack up a pellet of the things they cant digest
  • They are brilliantly called owl pellets.

THE BABIES

  • The number of eggs an owl lays depends on the season
  • The babies need to learn to fly and leave as soon as possible (just like humans)
  • This is because owls are very territorial

BARN OWLS

  • They usually eat mice and other small rodents
  • They live up to 20 years
