  • Extreme tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Tenderness and pain in the lower abdamin
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Pain in joints

  • Hives

HOW IS IT TRANSMITTED?

  • Saliva
  • Vaginal fluids
  • Semen
  • Blood
  • Urine

  • Abstain from sexual intercorse

  • 46,000 people are infected each year
  • Most infections occur among people ages 20-49
  • 1 in 2 adults have no symptoms
  • Symptoms occur between 6 weeks to 6 months after infection
  • Very contagious

HBV VACCINE

  • Very effective
  • Given to infants and young children
  • Makes body's immune system develop antibodies
  • Given in 3 shots: 1st and 2nd shot are given 1 month apart
  • 3rd shot is given 6 months from 1st one

SIDE EFFECTS OF VACCINE

  • Soreness, redness, swelling or itching
  • Mild fever in some cases, dizziness
  • Small risk if allergic reaction
  • Fast heartbeat, hives, weakness
