WHO WAS HUDSON?

  • He was Born in 1570
  • Grew up near London, England
  • Grew up and become an English Sea Captain
  • Got married and had 3 children
  • Died in 1611
  • No one found Hudson because he was thrown off his ship
  • He had a brother
  • Brother died in 1601

WHAT DID HUDSON DO?

  • When he was 18 years old he wanted to find the Northwest and Northeast Passage (those is a waterway from Europe to Asia)
  • When Hudson reached North America he was introduced to corn. The Native Indians used corn for cooking and this was something that people from England had never used before.
  • Hudson explored the North by ship. He made 4 trips but never succeeded.
  • He traded steel and axes for spices and gold.
  • He fought Spanish people at sea and even James Cook.
  • He discovered Hudson Bay, the Hudson River and the Hudson Strait in Canada's north.

WHERE DID HUDSON EXPLORE?

  • He explored the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans.
  • Explored Greenland, Europe, Asia and Africa
  • On his 4th voyage he disappeared at sea.

WHEN DID HE EXPLORE?

  • He made 4 voyages to find the Northwest and Northeast Passages but did not succeed.
  • In 1607 he made his first voyage on the Discovery.
  • In1609 he made a second try to go across the Arctic Ocean on the New Moon.
  • On his third voyage he discovered Hudson Bay.
  • On his 4th voyage in 1611 his crew pushed Hudson overboard because they had enough of him and their failure.

WHY DID HE EXPLORE?

  • He was searching for a passageway from Europe to Asia to get gold, spices and treasures.

WHAT TOOLS DID HE USE?

  • Needed a ship with a lot of water.
  • Needed a good crew.
  • Own cabin
  • Needed a map and warm clothes.
  • Had steel and axes to trade for gold and spices.

  • Changed the world because he mapped major landmarks in North America.
  • Discovered Hudson River.
  • Discovered Hudson Bay.
