CHROMOSOME

  • The Sex Chromosome is being effected in hemophilia
  • The X chromosome is being effected when having hemophilia because of having a mutation in the gene

SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS

  • Pain in joints and muscles
  • Symptoms include bleeding, blood in urine, bruising, internal bleeding nosebleeds, or swollen joint
  • Medicine to help treat this is clotting promotion, supportive care is IV Fluids

POPULATIONS AFFECTED

  • Hemophilia effects all racial and ethic groups equally

LIFE EXPECTANCY

  • Most people with hemophilia don't live to their adulthood with out treatment
  • The average life span with hemophilia is 10 years less than people with out

CHALLENGES

  • Every kid or adult with hemophilia has to take a pill every day to make sure they don't bleed out if they get a cut

TESTS

  • To verify if they have hemophilia they must do screening tests and clotting factor tests

THERAPIES

  • The main treatment for hemophilia is called replacement therapy

  • Less than 200,000 people have it per year
  • Hemophilia can not be cured but you can get treatment.
