PRESENTATION OUTLINE

HEMOPHILIA

Hemophilia has two different types, A & B one which is factor VIII deficiency and then the other is factor it deficiency. Hemophilia also has two other names NHLBI and NIH.

This disorder is inherited and it is caused by a defect in the gene that determines how the body makes blood clotting factor VIII or IX.

In men the X chromosome is affected, it's very rare for women to get this but they are carriers of it so their kids have a chance to get it. There are no prenatal test to do to see if the child will be affected. In order to test they have to take blood from the child.

SYMPTOMS

  • Nosebleeds.
  • Lumpy bruises.
  • Bleeding for no reason.
  • Bleeding doesnt stop after injuries.
  • Internal bleeding.

This disorder is very rare for women to get and is mostly seen only in males. Women are carriers of this though, and it is sex-linked.

There are no current cures for hemophilia yet, but they do have different types of therapy that you can do. You could do at home therapy or Gene therapy or take medicines such as pesmopressin, and Antifibrinolytic

Since this disorder is inherited it can not be prevented, and women that carry this their children could be affected. As of right now they are looking for a cure for this disorder.
