Overall Description of Jobs

Both U.S. Senators and Representatives serve for the people and represent the state. They both also legislate and form committee members.

Qualifications of U.S. Senators

Senators must be a citizen for 9 years, be at least 30 years old, and they must inhabit the state in which they are elected. A senator must also meet a higher level of qualifications than those the Constitution sets for a member of the House.

Qualifications of Representatives

Representatives must be a citizen for at least 7 years, they must be 25 years old, and they must live in the state form which they are being elected.

How They are Elected

U.S. Senators are elected by voters in the november elections. Representatives are elected by voters in the district.
