Qualifications:
Qualify for the House of Representatives. According to the Constitution, Article 1 Section 2, a representative must have been an American citizen for at least the past seven years and be at least 25 years old. Additionally, the candidate must be a resident of the state which he or she hopes to represent in Congress. Usually, representatives must be from the district they represent.
Job Duties and responsibilities:
As a House member you represent a certain district in your state. This means that you will stay in touch with your constituents and, hence, you will be more aware of their opinions and needs and be able to advocate for them in Washington. Also, one of your major job duties will be to raise revenue through taxes. Further, you will participate in committees to study bills, hold public hearings, get expert testimony and listen to votes so that legislation can be passed. Further, you might serve on a joint committee with Senate members.

A senator’s job is to represent the people living in his or her state in the United States Senate. Part of this job is to write and vote on new laws called “bills.” A bill must be voted on and passed by both the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives and signed by the President of the United States in order to become a law.
