  • Heat- the total kinetic energy of the molecules in an object
  • Heat transfer- a process of energy transfer from one object to another
  • (From the hotter object to the colder object)

  • Conduction
  • Convection
  • Radiation

CONDUCTION

  • Transfer of heat through touching objects
  • Examples:
  • Cooking food in a pan
  • Holding a spoon above a candle
  • Requires matter, an object

CONVECTION

  • Transfer of heat through fluids
  • Examples:
  • Boiling water
  • Fire heating up a room
  • Requires fluids such as liquid or a gas

RADIATION

  • Transfer of heat through rays or waves
  • Examples:
  • The sun
  • Microwave
  • Does not require matter
