PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Heat is a form of energy associated with the movement of atoms and molecules in material.
Heat transfer is energy in transit due to temperature difference.
THE THREE METHODS OF HEAT TRANSFER
EXAMPLES
- Boiling water
- Putting frozen food under water to thaw.
EXAMPLES
- Picking up a hot cup of coffee
- Using a heating blanket to get warm
EXAMPLES
- A person placing their hand over a hot burner
- Lying in the sun to get a tan
Only convection and conduction require movement of matter. Radiation does not.
