WHAT IS MENTAL ILLNESS

  • MI is a condition that impacts a person's thinking, feeling or mood and may affect behavior.
  • 3 causes of MI are chemical imbalance, heredity, and enviromental factors or life.
  • 1 in 5 adults experiences a mental health condition every year.

WHAT IS OCD?

  • "OCD means obsessive compulsive disoorder. It is a commom chronic and long lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccuring thoughts. (Obsessions) and behaviors (Compulsions) that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over."

WHAT CAUSES OCD?

  • Causes of OCD are unknown
  • Risk factors include-
  • Genetics
  • Brain structure/ functioning
  • Enviroment

SIGN& SYMPTOMS OF OCD

  • Obsessions-
  • Fear of germs
  • Having things symmetrical, or perfect order
  • Compulsions-
  • Exsessive handwashing/ cleaning
  • Compulsive counting

STEROTYPES OF OCD

  • People with a MI are crazy.
  • People with a MI are dangerous and want to murder people.
  • All neat freaks have OCD.
  • OCD is all about being clean.
  • Stress causes OCD.

TREATMENT FOR OCD

  • Medications (SRIs), (SSRLs)
  • Behavioral Therapy
  • Psychotherapy

CONCLUSION

  • Overall, people sometimes misunderstand people with OCD by hating them or by looking down on them. But the truth is that people with OCD are trapped in unwanted thoughts, they live in fearful and distress lives. They experience shame and lonliness which often stop them from seeking help.
