  • Comes from rodents
  • Virus is caught through contact of rodent feces or saliva
  • Leads to hantavirus hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) or hantavirus pulmonary syndrome

  • Intense headaches
  • Back and abdominal pain
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Nausea
  • Blurred vision

HANTAVIRUS PULMONARY SYNDROME

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Myalgia
  • Headache
  • Lethargy
  • Shortness of breath
  • Leads to respiratory failure

ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECT

  • First discovered during the Korean War
  • Has been seen in Asia, North America, Africa, Canada and South America
  • Transmitted directly to humans through rodents
