The Beginning

• Liu Bang was the first emperor of the Han Dynasty.
• He made great contributions to the development of Han people.
• There were 2 powerful leaders of the states of Chu and Han.
• Chu started out much stronger of the two but lost to Han.
• This became the Han Dynasty.

Han Wudi

• Advocated the development of literature
• Set musical education as a required class
• Pursued a foreign policy of imperial expansion
• Centralized power and authority at home
• Invaded countries and brought them to Han rule

Land and Reform

• Attempted reforms of land ownership were unsuccessful
• Caused chaos in the local economy between the rich and the poor
• Forced them to pay farmers less money for more work
• Wang Mang made some missteps like war, taxation, increasing prices, etc.
• The Han Dynasty was restored, but full recovery was impossible
