WHO WAS LIU BANG?

  • Emperer gaozu of western han
  • He was the first emperor of the Han Dynasty(256-195 BC)
  • He rebelled against the despotic rule of the qin dynasty
  • His army overthrew them
  • He wanted to create a law supported by the community unlike qin dynasty

  • It was named in opposition
  • To his main rival who was nicknamed "xi chu ba wang"
  • Chu is opposite han on a chess board

  • Unlike his predecessors, he was more war prone.

  • Many wars, believed you must fight to expand, light taxes

WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS DID SMALL LANDOWNERS FACE IN CHINA?

  • The small landowners fell into debt because of all of the taxes.
  • They could not afford all the taxes they needed to pay to the han tax base
  • They were forced to work as farming tenants.
  • Eventually, the government provided reforms to keep them out of debt, such as reducing taxes and remessions
  • Large land owners did not suffer

WANG MANG DIFFERENT REFORMS

  • His reforms were aimed to strengthening his bureacracy
  • He said that large tax free estates be dissolved and land redistributed to the peasants
  • Wang mang believed that it should be an ideal society with equal land
  • Had many currency reforms which caused property valies to decrease.
  • Sometimes Known as chinas first socialist
