PRESENTATION OUTLINE

HAN DYNASTY

CREATED BY: JOSEPH C.

Liu Bang:
Liu Bang was a Chinese military commander who had reestablished order across China. Rather than having the country broken up into different parts, it was united once again as one, single whole.

The Name:
The reason why Liu Bang had called his rule the Han Dynasty was to honor his native land. Another thing to note is that it was also the longest and arguably the most influential dynasty of Chinese history. It had last for four hundred years, a sufficient number to create a long and lasting impact on the country.

Educational System of the Martial Empire:
The Marital Emperor (Han Wudi) realized the need of intellectual scholars for his bureaucracy to run and work functionally. He would then create an imperial university to educate young men. At its start, it had enrolled three thousand students. By the end of Later Han, more than thirty thousand individual learners seeking knowledge were enrolled in schools.

Foreign Policy:
The main foreign policy was to expand the power of the empire. As a emporer, Wudi would have naturally wanted to spread his ruling to a vaster amount of space.

Problems Faced:
At one point in the Han Dynasty, China began to face economic and social problems. As land was given to the hands of the few and elite class, the problems only increased. When so much power was given to those individuals, they had created a monopoly, severing the economy into a impoverished and destitute state. Soon, banditry and rebellion had become common. Eventually, Han rule was brought to an end, resulting in another dynasty.

Reform:
Mang most important reform was one of pertaining to land ownership. He limited the amount of land that a family could own. Once done, the officials were ordered to break up the large estates into smaller parts. After this process, the broken up pieces of land would then be distributed to landless individuals. Despite the well-thought out plan, it had created confusion due to the fact that communication and preparation had not been made.

Reform (continued...):
Landlords immediately rebelled, even peasants had thought the idea was too absurd, inconsistent, and unsatisfactory. After a period of chaos, the country was soon plagued by famine. This had caused multitudinous amounts of rebellion. In the ultimate end, Mang was killed off, and his dynasty was left to dust in start of another one.
