WEATHERING
Weathering is the breaking down of rocks, soil, minerals and other materials through contact with air, water, and biological organisms.
Mechanical weathering aka physical weathering is the breaking down of rocks by physical means such as water/ice, animals, and plants.
Chemical weathering occurs by chemical changes in the rock. Examples, oxidation of metal (metal + oxygen = rust) in the rock or carbonic acid (water + carbon dioxide = acid rain).
