HADES

Greek god of the Underworld

ABOUT HADES

  • Hades is the Greek god of the underworld. He obtained the underworld when he and his siblings battled the Titans for earth. When he won, the siblings each took part of earth to rule, and he got the underworld.

HADES FAMILY

  • Parents were Cronus and Rhea
  • Siblings were Zeus, Poseidon, Demeter, Hera, and Hestia

PERSEPHONE

  • Hades' wife is Persephone. The first time he saw her he decided she was going to be his wife, so he kidnapped her.

CERBERUS

  • Cerberus is Hades' 3 headed dog that guards the dead from leaving the underworld.

HELM OF DARKNESS

  • Obtained as a gift from a cyclops
  • Cyclops also gave Zeus his lightning bolt, Poseidon his trident.

HADES' PURPOSE

  • Hades is in charge of deciding where people go after they die and making sure everyone that dies stays in the place that Hades put them in. His dog Cerberus also guards the gates of the underworld to prevent the living from entering and the dead from leaving.

FIELDS OF ASPHODEL

  • This is where most people were sent, people who hadn't committed any great crimes but hadn't accomplished any great feats either.

THE FIELDS OF PUNISHMENT

  • Where the people that behaved the worst in their lives went and had committed crimes against the gods. Hades specially picked each eternal punishment for each of them.

ELYSIUM

  • People who had made good accomplishments and acts for the gods were sent here. It mostly consists of demigods and heroes.

ISLES OF THE BLESSED

  • When sent to Elysium you had the option to be reborn up to 3 times. If you achieve Elysium all 3 times you are sent to the Isle of the Blessed

THE RIVERS OF THE UNDERWORLD

  • Styx- Central river
  • Lethe- Dead drank water to forget earthly existence.
  • Acheron- separates the lower world from the upper
  • Phlegethon and pyriphlegethon- rivers of fire
  • Cocytus- river of cries

LIKE AN UMP

  • Hades is like an umpire in baseball because they both have to keep everything in line, but they are both very suited for their jobs.
