HABITAT DESTRUCTION

WHAT IS IT?

• Habitat destruction is when a place where organisms live that get destroyed
• An example would be a volcano erupting and destroying the area around it where organisms live

WHO IS CAUSING IT?

• The two main sources are humans and Natural disasters
• Humans pollute the earth and cut down forests, the oil spills in the oceans are our fault too.
• Natural disasters such as tsunamis and hurricanes can destroy the habitats around them

ANIMALS THAT ARE MOST IMPACTED

• The animals that are impacted the most are marine animals due to oil spills
• When there are oil spills, it gets all over the animals and it changes their environment

WHERE?

• It is happening all over the world
• It is mostly occurring in Forest and Marine habitats

WHY?

• Every time we cut down trees to build new houses, we are taking part in habitat destruction
• It is happening because we are more involved in technology than saving the earth
• It is also because we are growing and the more we grow in technology, numbers, etc. habitats may go down

SOLUTION

• Marine Protected Areas or MPAs are used to protect marine habitat and endangered species
• Land use and Development Regulation is used to reduce land use in order to protect it
• Both of these keep people from hurting animals and habitats

DOLPHIN

• Most of the mammals that have died due to habitat destruction are dolphins
• Many were visibly oiled
• In 1973 the Endangered Species Act was issued to protect Marine Animals

ANIMALS

• Habitat destruction effects animals, because when their home gets destroyed
• So does everything else that they need to survive
• After living for a while without the right supplies, they die
• It is like us not eating for a month or not having water for 3 weeks,
• we would die if we didn't have those things

WHEN?

• The most recent storm is Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines
• This destroyed a lot of habitats
• It killed a lot of animals and people
